Martin Del Camino was born in Buenos Aires Argentina in 1966. His grandfather, Cosme Saavedra, was a bicycle legend and inventor, who owned a bicycle factory. This influence kept Martin very active riding road bikes, skateboards, and was a BMX pioneer in Argentina, with his cousins Damian and Ricardo. Growing up around the factory Martin began to pick up various skills and became very astute with mechanical things. He even took off his own training wheels on his bike at age four.
While growing up, Martin also had an interest in art. His influences were his father, who was a Chemist, and designer, and Walter Lantz of Woody Woodpecker fame. During High School, Martin studied technical courses and Electro mechanics. After graduating, he actually had a stint as a handyman and electrician. While going to community college, Martin began studying art and graphic design. Since 1984, he also played drums in several bands including: Dimention Bop, Shanghai a go-go and Radio Texas. |

Martin and his friend opened a liquor/convenience store in 1987. They created an underground hangout for the Alternative scene, Rock Musicians, and an assortment of different artists and characters. It was at this time that Martin met Chino an infamous
tattoo artist in Buenos Aires. In 1990, Martin got his first tattoo by Chino. Martin began hanging around Chino's shop (which later became well known as Chinese Tattoos and Cocktails). He began to watch tattoo's being made and decided to make Chino and himself tattooing machines, as they were difficult to get in Argentina. Because of Martin's access to the family factory, it was very easy to get them manufactured. At that point Chino introduced him to Claus at Lucky Seven Tattoo. In 1994 to 1996 he worked part-time as an apprentice and eventually an artist. He started tattooing on his friends in Buenos Aires at Lucky Seven, temporarily his other interests prevailed and the family business came calling.
Due to his expertise at making bicycle rims, he was called upon in 1995, to visit America to consult for his cousin's bicycle rim company in Los Angeles. At this time, he struggled to balance his artistic creativity, practical abilities and family tradition. In 1996 he returned to be full time at Lucky Seven. Martin began to attend tattooing conventions, seminars, and started to seriously study to learn more about art. Eventually in 2000, during a visit to America, he hooked up with Nathan Peterson from a chance meeting with another tattoo artist at an art store. He rose to the position Senior Tattoo artist at Nathan's Tattoo and Body Piercing from 2000 to 2004. In 2004, Martin left to join Dapper Dan Collins at the appointment only Tattoo and Art Gallery, Victory Studios. The studio was on the cutting edge, hosting art shows with the art of such artists as: Robert and Suzanne Williams, Von Franco, Ed Roth, C.C. Deville, The Pizz,
Mr. G and Makoto from Japan and Keith Weisner. More on Art shows in included in the website. At the same time, he assited in managing and organizing another tattoo shop called Xenobiotics in Studio City near Victory Studios. Martin has participated many conventions including: Live Fast -Austin Texas, DMS Convention in Ontario, CA, and was featured in Photos in Tattoo Magazine's 2005 supplement for the Body Art Expo in San Francisco. Martin has now become well known for his ability to create beautiful Japanese pieces; even freehand and covering up old tattoos.
